1. Plan the work, work the plan is the path to success.
2. The 3 step framework for success includes strategy, planning, and execution.
3. Planning the work and working the plan are essential for proper business development.
4. Proper planning and preparation prevents poor performance.
Failing can be costly.
In fact, my own failure to plan lost my client $367,451 in revenue and sponsorships.
This failure made me figure out a better way to plan.
All I had to do was build the framework and add the details.
I would never let this type of failure happen again.
In today’s newsletter, I want to give you a 3 step framework for success on how to plan your work and work your plan.
As an artist manager, the work of your artist client’s business is important for the sustainability of their career. It is also important for your career as their manager.
These are essential parts of business development.
Business development can be as simple or as complex as you wish. Regardless, it gives you a clear roadmap for your artist client’s business.
Most artist managers don’t do this because they don’t give real thought to what they want to accomplish.
Time to change the narrative.
Strategy, planning, and executing the plan is how any business succeeds and is profitable.
Your artist client’s business isn’t any different.
Every business should do at least SOME business development before starting or expanding operations. As I mentioned, the simplicity or complexity is really up to you.
If you follow me on social media I speak about the importance of this process so you may be able to achieve your goals that speak to your overall success.
The 3 step framework for success is simply:
1. Strategy
2. Planning
3. Execution
I personally realized how important this 3 step framework was early enough in my artist manager career to prevent serious burnout and loss.
And I’m going to show you how, step by step:
Strategy always come before planning and execution.
A strategy is the complete understanding that brings together your plan/plans to reach your goals.
While there are layers and levels to its meaning, it can be thought of as determining how you will win in the period ahead.
In the crowded music marketplace, thinking strategically isn’t about competition or being the best. Rather, it is about being unique and authentic.
Competing to be “the best” is a dangerous mindset leading to zero-sum competition no one can win.
Competing to be unique is the basis of a sound business strategy for you and your client.
You cannot get anywhere without a plan.
Planning always has purpose.
A well thought out process includes being clear about your goals and outcomes so you can create a plan to achieve them.
Great artist managers know planning is the only way an artist can experience success.
Ever wonder what defines and separates the way you find out about an artist who becomes your favorite artist?
Yep. You guessed it. Planning.
Execution is what puts this all in motion.
The execution of strategies is what brings them to life.
Execution is about making things happen, dealing with obstacles, and adjusting to new information and changing conditions.
The music landscape is consistently changing and constantly evolving. Execution is the only way to find out what fits, what works, and/or needs to be tweaked.
Success for your client is dependent on your ability as a manager to be able to change tactics – not strategy – to achieve your set goals.
Hope this helps.
